PRODUCT: DIGITAL VAX PL/I, Version 3.6-001

COMPONENT:  Compiler (PLI$COMPILER.EXE, Version 3.6-001)

OP/SYS: Compaq OpenVMS VAX, Version 5.2 through 7.1

SOURCE:     Compaq Computer Corporation

SYMPTOM:

After VAX PL/I is upgraded to Version 3.6-001, an attempt to compile a
code fails with one of the following sets of error messages. For
example:

     $ PLI /LIST TEST.PLI
     %PLIG-F-BUGCHECK, Compiler bug check during code generation .
      Submit an SPR with a problem description.
     %PLIG-F-TEXT, Compiler abort - virtual memory limits exceeded.
     %SYSTEM-F-ABORT, abort

or:

     $ PLI TEST.PLI
     %PLIG-F-BUGCHECK, Compiler bug check during code generation .
                Submit an SPR with a problem description.
                At line number n in disk:[dir]TEST.PLI;1
     %PLIG-I-NOBJECT, No object file produced.
                At line number n in disk:[dir]TEST.PLI;1

Increasing the process's working set extent (WSEXTENT) and paging file
quota (PGFLQUO) may not have an effect.

COMPAQ RESPONSE:

Engineering has acknowledged this problem and plans to address it in a
future release.

WORKAROUND:

Specify the PLI qualifier /NOOPTIMIZE or /OPTIMIZE=NOINLINE.
