SYMPTOM:

After upgrading to OpenVMS Alpha Version 7.1-2, the following message
is encountered when linking programs that are compiled with the PLI
compiler:

     %LINK-I-UNDSYM, ...dpli$hnd_establish_on_unit_fast


SOLUTION:

Re-install PLI Version 4.2.


ANALYSIS:

PLI Version 4.2 installs a version of the PLI run-time library
(DPLI$RTLSHR.EXE) that is needed for new functionality provided
by PLI V4.2.  The installation of OpenVMS Alpha V7.1-2 installs a
version of DPLI$RTLSHR.EXE that is missing this functionality (and
symbol).  Re-installing PLI V4.2 restores the correct version of
DPLI$RTLSHR.EXE.
