Below the content editing tools are a collection of file-oriented tools.  The are initially disabled (greyed-out) and require a file name to be selected (adjacent to the [Edit-Plain] button) before becoming active.  This is deliberate to assist avoiding actions on unintended files.  Some tools are appropriate to some file types (e.g. textual) and not to others (e.g. images).  [Delete] is applicable to all.

After the editing of content the next most common activity would be the management of the non-textual resources used within (e.g. images) and made available by (e.g. downloads) the site.  VWcms stores all content and resources in a single directory associated with the site.  Textual content is edited in-place.  All other resources must be uploaded to the site.  These are managed using the interface available from the [Resources] button.

File Versions

As content and resource files are saved and uploaded new versions are created.  The semi-colon delimited number associated with the file increments with each save, with the highest version number being the most recent.  (Users of VMS will be familiar with this concept.)  For editable content it is possible to regress to earlier versions by selecting a version with a lower number.  The [Tidy up!] button removes multiple versions and resets the version number to ;1.

Care needs to be exercised to ensure that a file selected for search-and-replacement, editing or deletion is the actual version desired!

Search and Replace

The text input field to the left of the [<Search] button can be used to check for instances of the supplied string in the currently selected file (adjacent to the [Edit-Plain] button).  In conjunction with the [Replace>] button and associated text field to the right it can be used to replace such instances with another string.  Again, this search-and-replace operates on the selected file.  The search and the replacement both operate on the raw text contained withing the selected file and so some care needs to be exercised when peforming general replacements (for example, not to replace HTML markup inadvertantly).

Edit

In addition to editing the content of the site it is possible to directly edit the content of a file.  Plain text editing is available for both site files and HTML files (allowing access to the raw HTML), and HTML editing for HTML files.  Some care needs to be exercised when using plain text editing on HTML!

Delete

Completely removes the selected file.  Caution!
