The currently supported HTML editor is a very capable, open-source package named FCKeditor:

http://www.fckeditor.net

FCKeditor is copyright © 2003 - 2008 Frederico Caldeira Knabben and released under GPL.

Browser compatibility (extensive) is listed on the home page of the above site.

The editing capabilities available with FCKeditor are comprehensive and most will be familiar to anyone who has used word processing application(s).  A detailed explanation of FCKeditor, usage and management, is beyond the scope of VWcms documentation.  For detailed information or explanations of anything that seems less-than intuitive please consult the FCKeditor documentation wiki:

http://docs.fckeditor.net/FCKeditor_2.x/Users_Guide
http://docs.fckeditor.net

An example of the editor interface is displayed below:

Some features of FCKeditor are disabled or have no effective behaviour when used within VWcms.  It does provide (amongst much more):

  • Text bold, italic, underline and strike-through
  • Ordered (numbered) and unordered (bulleted) lists
  • Indentation, left, right and full text justification
  • Multiple font families and sizes
  • Text styles and highlighting (including color)
  • Special characters (e.g. £ € ä ë ï ö ü)
  • Tables, HTML forms and link management
  • HTML source is accessable for under-the-hood tweaking

When leaving FCKeditor VWcms occasionally alerts, reporting that the content has changed (continue or not?)  This is due to FCKeditor checking the syntax of the content and making minor modifications (under-the-hood).  If the manager has made no explicit changes to content it is safe to continue without saving again.
